Our Mission

Building a loving community of Christ followers who worship God, serve others, and grow together.

Our choice of words is clearly significant. Here are some of the thoughts behind the key words:

Our relationship with God is expressed, primarily, through worship. We define worship as: the adoring response of all that we are to all that God is, says, and does. That means, even though we worship together once a week as a community (Heb. 10:25), we recognize that our whole life must be lived as an act of worship to God (Rom. 12:1). The quality of our worship on the weekend is directly related to the quality of our worship during the week.
We have placed our responsibility to others (in the world) before our responsibility to one another (in the church). We did this because the natural tendency of most churches is to serve themselves, and then serve others if there is time, energy, and resources left over. So, churches naturally get focused inward and have a hard time doing anything beyond the four walls of the church building. Our command from Jesus is to “go,” not just to wait for people to come (Matt. 28:19). Jesus even demonstrated that with his own example of going to the “tax collectors and sinners,” and he even defined his mission in terms of serving others (Mark 10:45). Following Jesus’ example means serving like he served. He was interested in meeting physical and spiritual needs. We give a cup of water in his name to quench physical thirst, but we also offer people Jesus, the “living water,” who can quench their spiritual thirst. His command to us includes a responsibility to tell people the Good News about Jesus (Mark 16:15; Rom. 10:14-15).

Following Jesus and becoming like him is never described as something that can just be done in private. It is a community experience where we each contribute to one another’s spiritual development (Eph. 4:11-16). This doesn’t happen very easily when the whole church gathers for worship, it happens when people gather in smaller groups to intentionally get to know each other and put into practice the things God commanded for us to do “one to another” (Rom. 14:19; 1 Thess. 5:11). The early Christians demonstrated this when they met in their homes to share all of life together (Acts 2:42-47).

As you can see, our mission statement is simple. We want to be committed to doing 3 things: Worshipping, Serving, and Growing. These three activities express what it means to be related to God, others, and one another. Don’t think of them as isolated from each other, because they are inseparable. If we are true followers of Christ, we can’t choose to just practice just one or two of the three and think that is OK.

We grow by serving and worshiping.
We worship as we grow and serve.

These are the three things we believe God has called us to do, and we want to make sure that is all we do, and that we do them well.
