Summerside is committed to seeing churches planted both locally and internationally. We had planted a church in the Chelsea Green and Glen Cairn community in 2017. Chelsea Green Community Church was planted by two former interns at Summerside. (Read Peter Barnaby’s bio here).
Dear CGCC Friends:
This month, Chelsea Green Community Church will be turning 4 years old!
We are so humbled by the all ways God has sustained us over these last few years: through seasons of sorrow and seasons of celebration; through a worldwide pandemic that brought society to screeching halt; and through the many other unexpected and joyous events that have made this church planting journey the incredible, God-glorifying, adventure that it has been!
This week, as we eagerly anticipate welcoming our neighbours into our building to celebrate Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, we want to extend an invitation to you, our beloved partners, to join us in praying over a few specific items:
1) Prayer and Fasting: To prepare our own hearts for the season ahead, our church family will
be observing a week of prayer and fasting leading into Easter weekend. Please be praying for the Spirit to strengthen our resolve to see the good news of Jesus Christ go forth in this community. For boldness and confidence in sharing the hope that resides in our hearts with
those that are still wandering and lost in their sin. Please pray for more opportunities to serve and care for our neighbours who are struggling with the lingering realities of the last
two years. Many in our community are feeling the financial pinch of increasing costs for every day expenses that many of us may take for granted – like putting food on the table, or paying rent and bills.
2) Easter Weekend Guests: Now that many of the Covid19 restrictions have been lifted, we are going all out and inviting everyone in the neighbourhood to come and hear the Word preached. On Good Friday, we’re assembling a team of volunteers to go right into the heart
of our community (a collection of apartment buildings a few blocks away), and serving a free lunch to the families that live there. The last time we did this, in the Fall of 2021, we had the chance to chat and rub shoulders with dozens of our neighbours; a number of whom have since come through our doors. Please be praying for receptive hearts in our neighbours, for wisdom in answering their questions, and the love of Christ to be poured
into their lives.
3) 2022-2023 Fundraising: Like many other churches over the last two years, we experienced
a decrease in giving. Some of this was due to folks simply drifting away as the pandemic wore on and on, but the positive (and paradoxical) flip side of this situation is that part of
the reason we’re experiencing this dip in tithing is that we are beginning to see more and more people from our community come through our doors.
Let me explain…
