Mark DeVries was born and raised in London, Ontario. He became a Christian at 19 while completing his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Western Ontario. In 1998, he married his high school sweetheart, Kristin, and had two children, Andrew and Alexandra. After completing a Ph.D. in Immunology and doing post-doctoral work in Computational Biology in Toronto and the United States, he returned to London to take a position as a computer programmer to allow himself more time for his family and God. Mark has participated in multiple church plants, been a youth leader, and spent many years leading small groups. At Summerside, he has been involved in leading a Community Group as well as helping lead Summerside Next. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity part-time at Heritage Seminary in Cambridge and has a real passion for helping people to understand God’s Word more deeply. Since he was saved outside of a church and largely through Bible reading (especially the book of Romans), he is a firm believer in the power of God’s word and has a strong desire to see people seek God through Scripture. Mark enjoys canoe camping, running, time with the family, and gardening. His favorite verse is John 14:21, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
