Michele’s passion for children and ministering to them has been shaped by her life experiences.
After attending a kids’ outreach service as a five year old, Michele understood her personal need for God’s forgiveness. Then with her parents’ guidance, she accepted Christ as her Saviour. As she grew and matured spiritually, Michele had many opportunities to work in various children’s ministries at church. A love for teaching and shepherding kids grew within her heart. After completing her elementary education degree, Michele married Minne Bouma and joined him in serving at a church school in North Carolina. Minne and Michele’s sons, Drew and Caleb, joined the family in 2000 and 2003. God led the family back to Ontario as staff at Central Baptist Church and Academy in Brantford and then to overseas ministry in Portugal with Across Borders for World Evangelism Canada.
In June 2016 the Boumas relocated to London, Ontario, after Minne was asked to assume the role of administrator for their mission agency. The family began attending Summerside Community Church and quickly came to love the church community and its mission.
Michele is eager to join the leadership team at SCC as the children’s ministry director and is looking forward to getting to know the many children and their families as well as the church’s ministry volunteers as they all seek to know, share, and serve Christ together.

Summer barbecues, lapping waves, and flip flops are among Michele’s favourite “happy” things. She never turns down an opportunity to cuddle a baby or buy special treats for those who call her Auntie ‘Shele. Michele enjoys connecting with the ABWE mission family as she supports and assists Minne with his responsibilities. Keeping in touch with friends and family by text message or video chat is a part of Michele’s everyday life that provides opportunities for sharing and prayer together. Taxiing her sons around daily gives similar opportunities – although prayer is done with eyes open in this case! The family loves to experience new adventures and locations together and also enjoys revisiting family favourites like Ipperwash Beach and Chick-fil-a.

Most recently Michele has been challenged by the life applications of the biblical truth that she is rescued and kept by Christ. Ps 97:10 “He preserves the lives of His saints.” (Book recommendation: Guarded by Christ and Seated with Christ by Heather Holleman)

A passage that particularly connects with and inspires Michele is the interaction between Christ and Peter in John 21:15. Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Do you love Me? . . . Then feed my lambs.”
