In the second “half” of 1 Thessalonians, Paul takes a turn towards giving direction and exhortation on how to live to please God. The standard way of thinking in our world is to live to please ourselves by the authority of who we are on the inside. In contrast, followers of Jesus submit to his authority in every part of their lives, especially when it comes to sexual purity. God is calling his people to live holy lives, granting us his Spirit to give us the strength, and offering his grace continually when we fall short.
