When Jesus’ authority is confronted by the Jewish leaders, he gives a brilliant response and then tells a biting story that gets him arrested just days later. Our natural tendency is to question authority. We often have our own ideas of how things should be and don’t like others telling us what to do. But if our highest authority is ourselves, we become enslaved to our desires, and our limited knowledge. Jesus offers himself as the ultimate authority that we can trust. All he asks from us is that we bear his fruit.
