So far in our journey through Mark, we’ve been able to see Jesus introduce his Kingdom in Israel. He’s teaching like no one ever before; calling people to repentance and faith; performing miracles that are inexplicable; confronting religiosity head on; and introducing us to parables. Today, the story shifts up a gear as we watch how he uses his power in an even greater way to demonstrate his heart. He’s one who is willing to go where no one wants to go, to rescue someone no one wants to rescue; and is willing to go to “The Other Side” where the Gentiles are. In doing so, he’s showing his disciples – and us, as well – the type of heart and vision we are to grow in, even though it may shake us up.
