Although Elijah is most famously known for his miraculous work in addressing a rebellious nation and its leaders, a critical part of his story is the sad account of hitting rock bottom spiritually. The stubborn dark clouds of discouragement and despair overtook him despite God’s work in his ministry; and he didn’t know how to deal with them. However, God did. The application of this situation to our own lives is encouraging and challenging simultaneously. There are profound spiritual lessons in this scenario which even the most seasoned Christian is capable of forgetting or missing entirely; and that’s why we need to watch the Lord deal with Elijah and let it impact us in our situation now.
