People tend to be more aware of their behaviour when someone like the principal, the police, or the boss show up (should we add the pastor?). We naturally think twice about what we are doing when someone we respect or fear is aware of our actions. James wants his readers to understand the God they are dealing with. He isn’t one who just ignores our sinful behaviour. He cares too much for us. His character demands that he take action when we sin.
