Although we’ve seen Jesus’ enemies target him since the very beginning of his ministry, we’ve seen him confound them with teaching, miracles, and displays of power that are stunning. But in this passage, we have lessons to learn as disciples as we watch him be rejected by his very hometown and family. Despite the fact that Jesus is continuing to train the 12 by exposing them to painful things like this, it’s frankly hard to watch the rejection of Jesus by the ones with whom he grew up. But watch we must if we are to be prepared to stand for Jesus in a culture of unbelief.
