What would have to happen before you could finally feel secure? More money? Less debt? A permanent job? A paid-off house? Enough in retirement that the numbers stop running through your head at two in the morning? As we continue our series through the parables of Jesus, we come to a story about a man who clearly had more than enough. His barns were full. His future looked secure. He was ready to tell his soul, “You can rest now.” Then God spoke. “This very night your life will be demanded from you.” What happens when the security we build cannot survive the voice of God? And what can finally give the soul the rest it has been trying to secure?
