Hell is a word some often use to make a point or describe something difficult or painful. Perhaps you use the eloquent substitute of Heck, whatever that means, to avoid even referring to Hell at all, as to not minimize its true meaning. It is difficult to think about it as something very real that people will inhabit for eternity. The reality of Hell is a problem for Christians. How could a good and loving God send people to Hell? It is more than uncomfortable to think about who might go there, what it could be like, and how long it will last. It’s tempting to ignore, edit, or eliminate what the Bible says about Hell. This week we will face the problem of Hell head on, why we can’t do away with it, why we have such a problem with it, and what Jesus taught about it. We must think clearly and Biblically about Hell so that we have a full understanding of Jesus’ work on the cross and can confidently call all people to receive eternal life in him.
