The title “Father” can stir up a wide range of emotions for most people. Depending on someone’s experience, the image of a father can bring tender and warm feelings, or they can stir up a whole host of negative emotions, like anger and resentment. When Jesus is called “Everlasting Father”, we need to understand what is implied in the title and not allow our experience to define what that means. On this fourth Sunday of Advent, we will be examining what God intended by giving this title to Jesus.
