Inflation in our day is not just something we see in terms of finances; the meaning of words suffer from a form of inflation. Words like “awesome” are used to describe God. Now anything and everything can be “awesome”. Unfortunately, this inflation of words has resulted in people not being able to trust what others say. We have to swear by something in order to convince someone that we are speaking the truth because our words have lost their meaning. Jesus warns us about the importance of speaking words truthfully.
