The Diagnosis No One Wants to Hear – Colossians 3:5-7

Last week in Colossians 3:1-4, we stood on incredible ground: if you belong to Christ, you have died with him, been raised with him, and your life is now hidden with him in God. It is some of the most hope-filled language in the New Testament. But Paul refuses to leave that truth floating in the clouds. In the very next verse, he brings it down into the real struggles of the human heart and delivers a diagnosis most of us would rather avoid. Beneath our behaviour lies something deeper; something quietly shaping what we love, pursue, and depend on. Yet, the purpose of the diagnosis is not condemnation. It is clarity. The same Christ who gives us a new identity also gives us a new way to live. This Sunday, we’ll look honestly at what Paul exposes and discover why the gospel offers not just forgiveness for our past, but a living hope and power for the Christian life today.
